 | About The Golden Lion
Michael and Tricia bought the Golden Lion in January 1988. The building had been used as an outdoor centre for seventeen years and required extensive renovation before opening as a hotel in May 1988. During renovations an ancient well, over 45 feet deep was discovered to the rear of the hotel. This well has now been made into an interesting feature. It is believed that The Golden Lion was a coaching inn during the sixteenth century and the old coach highway can still be followed on foot. A photograph taken in 1920 shows that the old arched entrance to the courtyard and stables was modified at a later date to make the dining room and bar. The three public bars provide traditional hand pulled ales, which have won awards from CAMRA | | | | |
